How does not knowing what fortunato did to montresor intendify the horror of in the cask of amontillado?

Answers

Answer 1
Part of not knowing what Fortunato's crime against the narrator is adds to the horror because we do not know if it was something incredibly small or if Fortunato deserved it entirely, although his death was a crime in itself. Part of the terror is not knowing if the narrator is an insane, heinous murderer or a man with an agenda and a solid reason.

In Antigone, Antigone defies King Creon’s order by burying Polyneices honorably. This defiance enrages Creon, who is unwilling to tolerate any opposition to his orders. What theme of Antigone do the above events reflect?

the dangers of civil disobedience and of a violent state

loyalty to family versus loyalty to the gods

the path of morality versus the path of civil law and order

the authority of the community versus the authority of the king

Im pretty sure it's not B, and if you think it is B please explain why.

Answers

In my opinion, the correct answer is C. the path of morality versus the path of civil law and order.

Creon's act of banning Polyneices' burial is understandable from the perspective of a king, who wants to protect his authority and punish all who would challenge it. He is a statesman and protector of the law, which means he must always punish an offender, or it would encourage many more people to break laws. However, Antigone's view is different. She thinks there are higher, divine, ethical laws, that are above any particular interests of state and the king, even if he is her own uncle. Her act depicts her bold determination that won't give way to any earthly authority.

which aspect of the following poem might imagists most admire?

Answers

Imagists believed that poems should have "no ideas but in things." In other words, they would described powerful images, and instead of explaining what those images meant, they would let the reader decide what the meaning or value of those images might be.

Imagists were especially fond of inviting the reader to recognize how very different sorts of images can actually be really similar. Ezra Pound famously did this with his short poem "In a Station of the Metro," which associates "faces in the crowd" with "petals on a wet, black bough."

The poem in your question does something very similar by associating the cat's footprints in the snow with the blossoming flowers of a plum tree. The writer wants you to recognize the odd visual similarity of the footprints and the flowers, ideally to show how there's a kind of cosmic connectedness in the world by (because two very different things end up being really similar).

Why were those trains allowed to roll unhindered into Poland? Why were the tracks leading to Birkenau never bombed? I have put these questions to American presidents and generals and to high-ranking Soviet officers. Since Moscow and Washington knew what the killers were doing in the death camps, why was nothing done at least to slow down their “production”? That not a single Allied military aircraft ever tried to destroy the rail lines converging on Auschwitz remains an outrageous enigma to me. Birkenau was “processing” ten thousand Jews a day. Stopping a single convoy for a single night—or even for just a few hours—would have prolonged so many lives.

Answers

Answer:

C) Oedipus pinned ankles leads Jocasta to a shocking realization.

Explanation:

Oedipus, the Chorus, and every one of the residents of Thebes comprehend the genuine idea of what has been around them. Oedipus blinds himself after hearing the news on the death of his mom/spouse. Oedipus' mighty acknowledgment of this fact, just as the demonstration of blinding himself, speaks to the climax.

Oedipus feels the devastating load of destiny and comprehends the pointlessness of his own opportunity even with such bigger components. This would need to be the peak since it is now where all inquiries are replied. It is now in which there is the best pressure. The news on what Jocasta has done and what it implies is the thing that hits Oedipus with the best of force. The climax presents itself here as the perfection of the previous acts. They have prompted this sincerely crude and serious minute. The incredible truth of self-acknowledgment and the clarity of seeing one's very own bind in a bigger component is the place the peak in Sophocles' drama is enlightened.

THE MATCH

There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.

Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature—by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.

In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.

How does the author develop the idea that humanity's early fire-starting tools may have been dangerous? Please respond in three to five complete sentences, using evidence from the text to support your answer.

Answers

Humanity's early fire-starting tools may have been dangerous because in the text is says, "It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions." This is dangerous because it would spew fire in all directions and if you think about it, the fire would hit something and then that thing would catch on fire. Lets say you were using the match inside your house. When you strike the match, a spark flies onto the wood floor and your house goes up in flames and you are stuck inside the house with no exit or escape. This may or may not happen, but because of the fire not being contained, there was a chance that you would be harmed.

Answer:The author develops the idea that humanity'y early fire-starting tools may have been dangerous because in the text it states, " It could be lighted by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions."  when something is thrown in an uncertain direction it becomes very dangerous and unpredictable. When the thing being thrown is able to cause more damage just on its own it becomes dangerous all in its self with the inevitable being scary.Because you don't know what it could hit or if it can become uncontrollable in an instant.  ion:
