why does Daisy's failure to respond to Gatsby's death in any way tell us about her character?

Answers

It tells us how she chooses her place in society over greiving the death of a loved one

Final answer:

Daisy's indifferent response to Gatsby's death underscores her selfishness, surface-level emotions, and concern for her own comfort and security rather than forming genuine emotional connections.

Explanation:

The question asks why Daisy's lack of response to Gatsby's death is significant in understanding her character. Daisy's indifference to Gatsby's demise in F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' is a crucial element that sheds light on her personality. It reflects her selfishness, her surface-level emotions, and her ultimate concern with her own comfort and security.

Daisy's failure to attend Gatsby's funeral or react in any meaningful way portrays her as being largely unconcerned with the serious, emotional aspects of life, and more focused on her immediate desires and social standing. Furthermore, it suggests that her relationship with Gatsby may have been more about what he could provide for her rather than a true emotional connection. This act solidifies Daisy as a symbol of the shallow, empty search for fulfillment in the opulence and carefree lifestyle of the Jazz Age.

Beowulf has all the characteristics of the epic genre.  It is written in a lofty style and emphasizes the theme of heroism. The hero has several superhuman qualities.

Beowulf, prince of Geats, reflects the characteristics of a true hero. Through his two phases of life- young and age, poem exemplifies his heroism. In his youth, he was characterized as courageous and full of strength. He embodied perfect characteristics of Germanic heroic code. He establishes himself as a hero when he purges Denmark of its plague. In the second phase, Beowulf conforms himself as both king and the warrior. He is able to defeat three frightful monsters. Therefore, for the sake of his ideals, he was willing to stake his life and saved people from evil or those who were in great need. Lofty style refers to the style of writing in which something is described that is above the ground or referring to someone who considers itself high above everyone.Through the use of lofty style, it makes the text thrilling and exciting and heightens the epic's captivating power and importance. Also, the epic contains many supernatural elements which increase the dramatic effects through the portrayal of superhuman in the epic. For instance, at the beginning of the story, Beowulf rips off the arms of Grendel when he comes to attack the palace.

My work:
My family and I live in Chicago
My family is poor and leaves me to work all day
We live in an apartment that is way too small for us
There is barely any room to sleep

My only friend is the couch and it has no smile
Because it is worn and faded, it has been here a while
Being at home is boring so I decide to take a walk
This gets me thinking and I begin to talk

Living in this poor neighborhood is like watching paint dry
Everything we own is either smells or looks as if it is going to die
Just like rotten food
I just want to move into a shiny new neighborhood

Yet like so many before it broke us too
Still, with no financial security, we make the move

Every warning heard was tossed away
For now, all we want to do is stay
We stick out as though we're in a spotlight
But we aren't going anywhere without a fight

We are trying to find a home for all of us to live

Answers

Hello! You've done well so far by adding a simile (stanza 3, line 1) and repetition (stanza 1, beginning of lines 1 and 2). But I'd like to help add some personification to the poem with the first 2 lines since A. it rarely shows up and B. it's one of the most important factors towards a poem when creating something with such detail.

"The future winking at us wishing us good luck
as we wash away worries with ideas of us being stuck"

These two lines offer personification because we give the "future" a human attribute of winking and wishing luck towards a person. Also, Alliteration is included in both these lines which can be seen by the repetition of "w"'s makes it's way in the second half of the first line and the first half of the second line.

I want to add some repetition for the end since you started with repetition at the beginning since it'll bring your ideas together in a much neater way.

"My family still keeps it's traditional pride
My family will push on making one last stride."

You have the repetition in "my family" as you used above, and it explains the ending of the book with the family still being who are they, only they accomplished there goal by making one final action, which is making the move.

I hope these lines help and if you need any more help, feel free to ask!

dante journey from the outer circle to the inner circles of hell

Answer:

B)Dante journeys from the outer circle to the inner circles of hell most likely connects to the symbolic idea of "going in a spiritual journey within oneself".

Explanation:

Dante Alighieri's "Inferno" details the narrator Dante's journey into the innermost parts of Hell in order to get to heaven, where Beatrice waits for him. In his journey, he encounters all the various famous characters of the world who were all condemned for their own sinful actions. So, this journey to him feels like a spiritual journey within his own self.

Viewers were shocked by edouard manet's le déjeuner sur l'herbe (luncheon on the grass), because of the

Answers

People were surprised by the painting because the picture showed a photo of a naked woman in the middle of two young men having lunch on the grass and behind them, there was a naked woman bathing in the river.

Further explanation

Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe (Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe) originally titled Le Bain (Le Bain) is a painting on canvas by Edouard Manet produced in 1862 and 1863. This painting depicts a naked and bather woman in a minimalist outfit. during a picnic with two fully clothed men in a rural area. Rejected by the Salon jury in 1863, Manet took the opportunity to exhibit this painting and two others at Salon des Refusés 1863, where the painting aroused public fame and controversy. This painting was done at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. A smaller and earlier version can be seen at the Courtauld Gallery in London.

A naked woman eating lunch with a man in casual clothes is an insult to public respect, even if Émile Zola, a contemporary Manet, considers that this is unusual in the paintings found at the Louvre. Zola also felt that such reactions came from seeing art differently from "analytic" painters such as Manet, who used the subject of the painting as an excuse to paint.

Many things are still unknown about painting, such as when Manet actually started painting, how exactly he got the idea, and how and what preparatory work he did. Although Manet claimed that this work was previously worth 25,000 francs in 1871, in fact, he remained in his hands until 1878 when Jean-Baptiste Faure, opera singer, and collector, bought it with only 2,600 francs (French currency).

how does henry david thoreau feel about standard us institutions such as postal service and the press

Answers

He thinks both postal service and the press are not necessary for living. Even more, they are redundant. He says that he doesn't need post-office at all, as most of the letters that people send and receive are worthy of sending or receiving. Also, he doesn't care about the media, as they never bring any news worth reading. All events and occurrences that the press writes about are mere gossips. For example, a person doesn't need to read about hundreds of murders or robberies to find out that crimes happen.

Answer: sample answer from assignment

In Walden, Thoreau states that he does not like institutions such as the postal service and the press, as he believes that they do not contribute anything new to society. He believes that few thoughts and letters are worth the price paid for postage. He also believes that there is never new "news," just the same events happening to different people at different times. These views support Thoreau's beliefs that individualism and self-reliance are more important than society or any institution.

In the story, Negi's father intervenes so that she does not have to help her mother in the kitchen. What can you infer from this?

Negi's father is mean.

Negi's sisters are their father's favorites.

Negi's mother is the leader of the family.

Negi's father is the leader of the family.

Answers

I would think it is the last answer because if what he said made Negi not have to work, it would mean that what he said made a difference, which would mean he had power over his family, making him the leader.

It's hard to picture how Negi's father is mean by making her not to work. There's no mention of Negi's sisters in a way that makes you believe that they're her father's favorites. Since the father has the final word, her mother most likely is not the leader of the family, but her father is, since he is the one who intervened.

The correct answer is: Negi's father is the leader of the family.

Read the excerpt from "The Most Dangerous Game." Bleak darkness was blacking out the sea and jungle when Rainsford sighted the lights. He came upon them as he turned a crook in the coast line, and his first thought was that he had come upon a village, for there were many lights. But as he forged along he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building—a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom. His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows. "Mirage," thought Rainsford. But it was no mirage, he found, when he opened the tall spiked iron gate. The stone steps were real enough; the massive door with a leering gargoyle for a knocker was real enough; yet above it all hung an air of unreality. Which literary elements are used in this excerpt? Check all that apply. characterization mood conflict irony imagery foreshadowing

Answers

mood and imagery are your answers.
Final answer:

The literary elements used in this excerpt are mood, irony, and imagery.

Explanation:

In this excerpt from "The Most Dangerous Game," the literary elements used include mood, irony, and imagery.

The mood is established through the description of the bleak darkness, the enormous building, and the air of unreality. This creates a sense of suspense and unease.

The irony is present when Rainsford first thinks that the lights belong to a village, but discovers that they are all coming from one building. This unexpected twist adds to the mysterious atmosphere.

The imagery is used to vividly describe the setting, including the blacking out of the sea and jungle, the shadowy outlines of the palatial chateau, and the cliffs diving down to the sea.

“Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land.” “I Have a Dream” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. What method of organization did the author use?

Answers

He used the compare-contrast pattern.

Starting from the point in history when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, he talks about its significance for the black race. Then, he jumps to the present moment, comparing and contrasting it. 100 years later, he says, Negros should be free, but they are not. Instead of being free, they are lonely, isolated, and forgotten.

If a=7 b=7 and c=2 what is the value of ac/2b

Answers

7(2)
2(7)

14
14

Answer is 1.

To find the value of ac/2b with a=7, b=7, and c=2, you multiply a and c to get 14, and since 2b is also 14, the result of the expression ac/2b is 1.

The value of ac/2b is to be calculated given the values a=7, b=7, and c=2. Applying these values directly into the expression, we can simplify as follows:

Multiply a (which is 7) by c (which is 2) to get ac = 14.Divide ac by 2b, where 2b is 2 multiplied by 7, which gives us 14.So, ac/2b equates to 14/14, which simplifies to 1.

Therefore, the value of ac/2b is 1.

the astronomer (from apex)

Final answer:

The question appears to be fictional, as no alien cylinders are known to have fallen to Earth historically. However, significant discoveries mentioned include Clyde Tombaugh's Pluto discovery, Giovanni Piazzi's asteroid Ceres, and W.E. Wendt's archaeological finds.

Explanation:

The student's question about who first discovered the alien cylinder that fell to Earth seems to be referencing a fictional event, perhaps from a novel or a movie, rather than a historical event. In historical discoveries relating to space, Clyde Tombaugh is known for discovering Pluto, the object in question during his search at the Lowell Observatory in 1930. Another notable figure, Giovanni Piazzi, discovered Ceres, the first asteroid, in 1801. For significant discoveries on Earth, the German archaeologist W.E. Wendt discovered fragments of an ancient stone drawing in a shelter in Namibia, which became an important find in archaeology. The finds mentioned provide real-world examples of significant discoveries, although they do not directly answer the fictional scenario presented in the question.
