if two identical cars are traveling at different velocities, which car has the greatest momentum

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The one with highest velocity

Explanation:

The momentum of an object is given by

[tex]p=mv[/tex]

where

m is the mass of the car

v is the velocity of the car

In this problem, we have two identical cars: identical means they have same mass, so

[tex]m_1 = m_2 = m[/tex]

The momentum of car 1 is

[tex]p_1 = mv_1[/tex]

while the momentum of car 2 is

[tex]p_2 = mv_2[/tex]

By comparing the two expressions, we see that the car with greatest momentum is the one with highest velocity, since the mass is the same.

Why does water have a high surface tension? (2 points) Hydrogen bonding keeps water molecules close together. Water is a liquid at room temperature. The lengths of the bonds in water molecules can change. Water molecules contain 18 electrons.

Answers

The correct answer is A. Hydrogen bonding keeps water molecules close together.

Explanation:

In physics, surface tension refers to the tension that is created in the surface of liquids as a result of bonds or attraction between particles and that makes the surface layer denser than the rest of the liquid. In the case of water, this occurs due to the bonds created between the hydrogen particles with other particles in water that create a surface that is denser and flexible. This only occurs in the surface while particles in the rest of the liquid do not form these bonds. Considering this, it can be concluded water has a high surface tension because "hydrogen bonding keeps water molecules close together".

Water has a high surface tension due to two key factors:

hydrogen bondingliquid state of water at room temperature.

Why does water have a high surface tension?

The high surface tension of water arises primarily from the presence of hydrogen bonds between water molecules and the fact that water is a liquid at room temperature.

Hydrogen bonding occurs when the positively charged hydrogen atom in one water molecule is attracted to the negatively charged oxygen atom of another water molecule. These hydrogen bonds create cohesive forces holding the water molecules close together.

According to Ohm's law, a circuit with a high resistance _____. will have a low electric current will have a high electric current will have an equal electric current will have an electric current but the relative amount cannot be determined

Answers

Answer:

current

Explanation:

According to Ohm's law, a circuit with a high resistance will have a low electric current

Explanation:

The basic electricity law is Ohms law. It considers three important elements which that electrical quantities. They are voltage, resistance and current. According to this law, the electric current that flows in a circuit has direct proportionality to the voltage and inverse proportionality to the resistance.

Thus, if a circuit has high resistance it implies that the electric current flowing in that circuit is low. If the circuit voltage is increased, there will be an increase in the current but the circuit resistance will remain unchanged. Hence, current is related with both voltage and resistance. Current has direct proportionality to voltage and inverse to the resistance.

which of the following occurs as a light wave bends when it passes from one medium to another
a constructive interference
b destructive interference
c refraction
d reflection

Answers

Answer: c. Refraction

Refraction is a phenomenon in which a light wave bends or changes its direction when passing through a medium with a refractive index different from the other medium.

Being the refractive index [tex]n[/tex] is a number that describes how fast light propagates through a medium or material, and is defined as the relation between the speed of light in vacuum ([tex]c=3(10)^{8}m/s[/tex]) and the speed of light [tex]v[/tex] in the second medium:

[tex]n=\frac{c}{v}[/tex]

It is important to note that in this process, the wavelength may be modified because it depends on the medium, however, the refracted ray of light does not change its frequency.

The bending of a light wave as it passes from one medium to another is called refraction, which is caused by the change in speed of light in different indexes of refraction and is not related to constructive or destructive interference.

When a light wave bends as it passes from one medium to another, the phenomenon is known as refraction. Refraction occurs due to the change in speed of light as it enters a medium with a different index of refraction. This bending does not result from interference patterns such as constructive interference or destructive interference, which are related to the alignment of wave crests and troughs when two waves meet.

Constructive interference leads to an increase in amplitude when crests align with crests and troughs with troughs, whereas destructive interference occurs when crests align with troughs, canceling each other out. These interference effects are typically observed in phenomena such as light passing through narrow slits or thin films, not in the simple bending of light as it moves between different media.

a simple pendulum has a period of 3secs. if the value of g is 9.9m/s^2. calculate the length of the pendulum

Answers

Answer:

2.3 m

Explanation:

A simple pendulum has a period of:

T = 2π √(L/g)

If T = 3 seconds and g = 9.9 m/s², then L is:

3 = 2π √(L/9.9)

3/(2π) = √(L/9.9)

(3/(2π))² = L / 9.9

L = 9.9 (3/(2π))²

L ≈ 2.3 m

Final answer:

To calculate the length of the pendulum, use the formula T = 2π√(L/g). Rearrange the formula, plug in the given values for T and g, and solve for L.

Explanation:

To calculate the length of the pendulum, we can use the formula for the period of a simple pendulum which is T = 2π√(L/g). In this case, we are given that T = 3 sec and g = 9.9 m/s². Plugging in these values, we can rearrange the formula to solve for L:

T = 2π√(L/g)

3 = 2π√(L/9.9)

Squaring both sides of the equation, we get:

9 = 4π²(L/9.9)

Dividing both sides of the equation by 4π² and multiplying by 9.9, we get:

L = (9.9 * 9) / (4π²)

Calculating this expression, we find that the length of the simple pendulum is approximately 0.250 m.

An airplane sprinkles black soot on a snow-covered field. The soot will increase the rate that the snow melts because _____.

Answers

Final answer:

Black soot decreases the albedo of snow, leading to increased absorption of solar radiation and faster snow melting due to positive feedbacks in climate dynamics.

Explanation:

An airplane sprinkles black soot on a snow-covered field. The soot will increase the rate that the snow melts because the darker-colored soot absorbs more solar radiation than the light-colored snow. Unlike snow, which has a high albedo and reflects most solar radiation, soot has a low albedo and thus absorbs more heat, leading to faster melting of the snow. This process is a part of positive feedbacks in climate dynamics, where an initial change is amplified by the effects it induces, such as increased absorption of solar energy leading to further melting.

Answer: 1. A) An atom of chlorine has 17 protons.

2. D) The number of protons equals the number of electrons.

Explanation:

1. Atomic number is defined as the number of protons or number of electrons that are present in an atom.

For an electrically neutral atom,

Atomic number = Number of electrons = Number of protons

As atomic number of chlorine is 17, it has 17 protons and 17 electrons. It can any any number of neutrons depending on the isotope.

2.

Electronic configuration represents the total number of electrons that a neutral element contains. We add all the superscripts to know the number of electrons in an atom.

Amplitude modulation is used in AM radio.

Answer is A.

Answer:

Amplitude modulation is used in AM radio.

Explanation:

Information signals must be transported between a transmitter and a receiver on some form of transmission medium. However, information signals rarely find a suitable way to transmit. Therefore, modulation is defined as the process of transforming information from its original form to a form more suitable for transmission, and is performed on the transmitter in a circuit called a modulator.

AM means modulated amplitude or amplitude modulation; it consists in varying the amplitude of a carrier wave of relatively high frequency according to the amplitude of the modulating signal (information). Frequencies that are high enough to radiate efficiently through an antenna and propagate through free space are commonly called radio frequencies.

AM was the first technique that was used to make radio.
