In Aztec culture how did monarch get their powers?

Answers

Answer 1

When an emperor died, the new emperor was chosen by a group of high ranking nobles. Usually the new emperor was a relative of the previous emperor, but it wasn't always his son. Sometimes they chose a brother who they felt would be a good leader.
Answer 2

Final answer:

Aztec emperors gained their power through a combination of divine selection, noble birth, and their roles as military and religious leaders, chosen by the Council of Four. Their power was demonstrated through elaborate coronation rituals and their involvement in religious sacrifices, establishing them as central figures in both the political and cosmic order of Aztec society.

Explanation:

In Aztec culture, monarchs, or emperors, derived their powers from a combination of divine selection, noble lineage, and their role as military and religious leaders. The Aztec society was highly stratified with nobles at the top, who owned land and monopolized governmental and religious positions. The emperors were chosen by the Council of Four, which consisted of high-ranking nobles. These emperors, also known as Huey Tlatoani, underwent elaborate coronation rituals to symbolize their immense power and close association with the divine.

The Aztec belief system emphasized the necessity of sacrifices to appease the gods and maintain cosmic order, with the emperor playing a crucial role in these rituals. This religious duty, alongside their military conquests and the expansion of their empire, cemented their authority and control over the Aztec people. The emperor's power was further reinforced by laws that dictated social conduct and obligations, underscoring their absolute control over both the state and the religious life of the empire.

In this unit, you learned how historians use primary sources to study the past. Today, many records of our lives can only be found online. Those records, however, can be lost if their creators choose to delete them. Do we have an obligation to future generations to preserve our online records? If so, how do we balance the preservation of online content with our own right to privacy in the present? If you think we don’t have this obligation, why not?

I think it's a good idea that we get conscious as a society about preserving important documents, which safety we may take for granted because they're stored online. However, when it comes to content that is harder to categorize as either public or private, we need to think more carefully about how we make that distinction.

In the past, people wrote stuff on notepads in their home or kept diaries which should be considered private; and you could also write a book and release it or letters to the newspaper which would be considered public. Now we can also do those things but there are platforms that place our information in between, like cloud storage or social media. Is a facebok post private or public?

I believe the law should adapt in order to protect our information against disclosure and make the distinctions between public and private affairs in online platforms more clear to keep a balance.

describe the difference between direct rule and indirect rule

Answers

Final answer:

Direct rule involves direct control by the colonizers, while indirect rule involves collaborating with local leaders and institutions to govern the colony.

Explanation:

The difference between direct rule and indirect rule can be summarized as follows:

Direct Rule:

In direct rule, the colonizing power exercises direct control over the colony, making all major decisions and implementing policies without involving local leaders or institutions. This system is characterized by a strong centralized authority where the colonizers hold all the power and make all the important decisions. The goal of direct rule is to assimilate the colony into the culture and political system of the colonizers.A good example of direct rule is the French colonial system, where the French authorities aimed to assimilate the local population into French culture.

Indirect Rule:

In indirect rule, the colonizing power allows local leaders and institutions to govern the colony on behalf of the colonizers. This system involves collaborating with and relying on Indigenous elites, recognizing their authority and allowing them to make decisions within certain boundaries set by the colonizers. The goal of indirect rule is to maintain control and extract resources from the colony while minimizing direct involvement and administration by the colonizers. An example of indirect rule is the British colonial system in India, where the British cooperated with Indian elites and allowed them to exercise authority under the supervision of British administrators.

In summary, direct rule involves direct control and decision-making by the colonizers, while indirect rule involves collaboration with local leaders and institutions to govern the colony.

In order to protect its domestic industries, a government can apply tariffs to import. Doing so, the tariffs would make the prices of imported goods more expensive leading consumers to buy products that are made domestically. Also, the government can implement trade restrictions such as import quotas that decreases the import's supply and forces its people to buy domestic products at a higher price.

The religious gatherings that took place during the second great awakening were called CAMP meetings?

The Second Great Awakening or Second Great Revival (1790-1840) was a time of unusual revival or Christian revival that extended into the American antebellum period, characterized by an unprecedented Christian evangelizing activity and large numbers of conversions. Its name is due to the Great Awakening, a similar period that had taken place about half a century before. It produced a deep feeling in churches and congregations throughout New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the Northwest and the South of the United States. Because of this preachers like Charles Finney, Lyman Beecher, Barton Stone, Peter Cartwright and Asahel Nettleton ended up becoming well known. The identification of evangelization with social causes was intensified, which affected American life in areas such as the reform of prisons, abolitionism and the promotion of abstinence.

In the Appalachian region, the awakening rode on the backs of large concentrations in camp meetings, taking on tints similar to those of the First Great Awakening of the previous century. The camp meeting was a religious service that lasted several days; In it several preachers were presented. Settlers from sparsely populated areas waited with anticipation for camp meetings that meant a certain escape from the routine of life set apart in the border regions. The dance, the songs and the extroverted shouts that were associated with this type of meetings had their origin in the genuine joy of participating in a religious revival together with hundreds, maybe thousands of people.

2. In 1493, Pope Alexander VI settled the conflict between Spain and Portugal about their rights to claim the lands they encountered during their explorations. Explain why the pope settled the argument, how he settled the matter, and the terms of the settlement.

Answers

In 1493, the Spanish rulers asked for papal support for their claims to the New World discovered by Columbus, in order to restrain the Portuguese and other potential rival claimants.

Pope Alexander VI established an imaginary line running north and south through the mid-Atlantic, 100 leagues (480 km) from the Cape Verde islands. Spain would have possession of any unclaimed territories to the west of the line and Portugal would have possession of any unclaimed territory to the east of the line.

Spanish and Portuguese ambassadors reaffirmed the papal division, but the line itself was moved to 370 leagues (1,185 miles) west of the Cape Verde Islands, or about 46°30′ W of Greenwich.

Answer:

In 1493, Pope Alexander VI settled the conflict between Spain and Portugal about their rights to claim land. The Spanish rulers asked for support for their right to claim the New World discovered by Columbus, in order to restrain the Portuguese and other potential rivals.

The Pope decided to settle the matter using diplomatic settlement since Spain didn’t have enough military power. The Pope divided the lands with an imaginary line which was originally 100 then reaffirmed,  370 leagues west of the Cape Verde islands. The east belonged to Portugal, and the west were given to Spain. However, they could only possess those parts that were unclaimed; neither were allowed to claim/occupy any territory in the hands of a Christian ruler.

In a short paragraph, analyze the influence of the work of Sigmund Freud on the social sciences. Be certain to include examples to formulate and give your opinion on how Freud impacts you today.

Answers

People often tend to mistakingly state Austrian physician Sigmund Freud, credited as the creator of Psychoanalysis, as a psychologist. In fact, back in his time Psychology as such was not fully formulated as a scientific discipline; Freud was himself a Neurologist. Psychoanalysis is a clinical method used to treat psychopatologies; we can safely state that from its foundation we became familiar with the notion that most psychopatologies stem from sexual repression, which is a consequence of the process of becoming a civilization. Freud and Psychoanalysis' impact on social sciences could be measured in terms that the roots of certain psychiatric illnesses -such as schizophrenia and neurosis- should not be regarded as rooted in physiological but rather mental family-history-related processes. This method also supports the acknowledgement of our own animal, in-the-end-not-so-apart-from-nature condition as a species. Furthermore, Psychoanalysis brought the assumption that all of us host ongoing inconscious processes in our minds -in Literature, it originated the Molly Bloom's vast stream of consciousness we find in James Joyce's Ulysses. Freud's impact on us stays strong and affects the levels of sexualization we find in every aspect of our current lives.

Sigmund Freud was considered the father of psychoanalysis. He was interested in consciousness and subconsciousness. He was the one who developed and used free association to understand people's behavior. Freud also developed the idea of id, ego, and superego. He impacts the world today because people use the word ego a lot nowadays.
