Summary of flying together class 5

Answers

Answer 1
In the forest, there was a tall tree. This tree is the home of the wild geese. One day, one of the geese, who is very wise saw a vine growing down the roots of the tree. He told his fellow goose about it. He had suggested that they should remove the vine while it's still young. He believed that when the vine grows bigger it might possibly make it easier for hunters to catch them. However, the other geese didn't listen to him and decided to ignore the problem. Every day, the vine grew bigger and a hunter saw it. The hunter devised a plan that would catch the wild geese living in the tree. So, he put a net on its branches when the geese were out hunting for food. When the geese return, they were not able to notice that they were caught in the trap. When they realized it, they felt remorse and sorry for not listening to the wild goose. So, the wild goose had an idea on how they can escape from the hunter. He told the geese that when the hunter arrived, all of them should pretend that they were dead. In that way, the hunter will throw them instead of eating or selling them and when the last geese would fall from the ground, they will all fly away. The next day, the hunter came and saw that the geese were dead. So, he threw them on the ground. Because of the idea of the wise goose, they were all able to escape from the hunter.

what are some of the common elements a writer uses to reveal information about a character?

Answers

They use adjectives to describe the characteristics of their character, and when using dialogue they'll sometimes have them use witty remarks or have them be more bland based on the personality that hey wish to convey. Also, an author will, after or before dialogue, add an adjective to what they're saying. For example: "I've been there before" Victor, said casually. Or: Ashley yelled "Well you should have known!" punctuation is also a key element in conveying a character well.

Authors use dialogue, interior monologue, descriptions of clothing, strategic naming of characters, and observations of interactions to convey character information. These literary elements reveal personality traits and backstories, crucial for understanding a story's character development and themes.

Common Elements Writers Use to Reveal Character Information

Writers use a variety of literary elements to reveal information about a character, which are essential to developing a story's character, plot, setting, and theme. One significant way is through dialogue, where authors can show a character's personality, beliefs, and background in a way that feels natural and moves the story along. Another element is interior monologue, which provides insights into a character's thoughts and feelings, contributing to both character development and plot progression.

An author may also describe a character's clothing to reflect their personality or attitude, adding depth to the character portrayal. Naming characters strategically is another aspect that can suggest certain traits or hint at their role in the story. Additionally, observing a character's interactions, such as the way they scold their children or show affection, can offer nuanced insights into their personality.

Thus, these elements help readers gain a more complex understanding of characters and can illustrate broader ideas within the story. When analyzing fiction, it's important to consider these elements in conjunction with more specific devices like symbolism and diction to conduct a thorough literary analysis.

Which of these subjects would most likely be written about in a lyric poem? (10 points)
Weather on a cool winter day
Praise for a champion
Life experiences of a writer
Style and color of a woman's shoes

Answers

Final answer:

The subject most likely to be written about in a lyric poem is 'Praise for a champion', which aligns with the typical focus of lyric poetry on personal emotions and thoughts, often in a celebratory manner, as seen in the form of odes.

Explanation:

The subject most likely to be written about in a lyric poem is Praise for a champion. Lyric poetry often focuses on personal emotions and thoughts, and it tends to be more musical in its expressions. Celebrating a person or an accomplishment fits well with this form. An example of this can be seen in odes, which are poems written in praise of their subjects, like 'Ode on a Grecian Urn' by John Keats.

In Romantic poetry, themes like love, nature, and personal reflection were common. These poets (such as William Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats) often used their work to convey deep feelings and to praise various subjects, including champions of various causes or events. Compositions like Keats's 'To Autumn' celebrate the season itself, similar to how a lyric poem might extol the virtues of a champion.

Considering the options given, other subjects like weather, life experiences, or the style of shoes can also be themes of lyric poems, but typically a lyric poem would be more inclined to the emotional and introspective nature of praising an individual or their achievements.

To understand the criminal mind, you might study one criminal, like the "unabomber," in great detail. extensive interviews, questionnaires, and psychological tests might provide interesting information about the mental processing in such a person. this type of study would be an example of a _____

Answers

The answer is case study. Case studies can be created by following a casual research technique. These contextual analyses are probably going to show up in formal research settings, as diaries and expert meetings, as opposed to well-known works. The subsequent collection of 'contextual investigation inquire about' has long had an unmistakable place in many orders and callings, running from brain research, human sciences, humanism, and political science to training, clinical science, social work, and regulatory science.

Final answer:

A case study involves extensive interviews, questionnaires, and psychological tests of one individual to gain a deep understanding of their behavior and mental processes.

Explanation:

A study that involves extensive interviews, questionnaires, and psychological tests of one individual, such as the "unabomber," is an example of a case study. In a case study, researchers collect a great deal of information from one individual to gain a deep understanding of their behavior and mental processes. However, it is important to note that while case studies can provide rich insights into individuals, they are not always generalizable to the larger population and are prone to researcher bias in interpretation.

The rabbi is called a shadow swept away by the wind. what rhetorical device is employed

Answers

This rhetorical device is called metaphor.

Rabbi Eliahu has lost his son after three years they spent together in concentration camps, and now inquires about him. Frozen and broken by cold winds and snow, by the SS soldiers' mistreatment, but most of all by the fact that his son is missing, this kind man shows up and goes away quietly, like a shadow. Wiesel uses this metaphor to imply that his existence in this cruel, inhumane world is transient. Maybe the next moment he would be a corpse in the snow, just like so many others.

This happens in chapter 6 of Elie Wiesel's novel "Night".

Final answer:

The rhetorical device used when a rabbi is described as "a shadow swept away by the wind" is a metaphor, which highlights the fleeting nature of their influence or presence.

Explanation:

The rhetorical device employed when the rabbi is called "a shadow swept away by the wind" is a metaphor. A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn't literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. Here, the rabbi is being compared to a shadow, something insubstantial and easily removed, to emphasize perhaps the fleeting nature of their influence or presence. This device is effective as it conveys deep meaning and can evoke emotion or contemplation in the reader.

No longer does a lover require compass or chart on troubled seas, since in finding love, the voyage is done, the “port” reached. It symbolizes that these are now meaningless.
The compass and the chart symbolize reason, temperance, caution. She doesn't need them anymore, as her heart is in port, and the winds can do it no harm now. The poem is about passionate love which is not yet realized. The meaning of those symbols in the second stanza is that if she were to unite with her lover, her heart would need no guidance from reason anymore, as she needs it now.

Which of the following is not an example of journalism

Answers

I think the best choice would be C.

An advertising section isn’t journalism; it promotes sales. True journalism involves local hero stories, election editorials, and restaurant reviews—informing, engaging, and enlightening readers.

Journalism is the noble endeavor of gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information to the public. It plays a pivotal role in shaping our understanding of the world, holding power accountable, and fostering informed citizenry. Now, let’s examine the options:

An advertising section about an upcoming sale: This one stands out as not being an example of journalism. Why? Because advertising content primarily aims to promote products, services, or events. It’s designed to persuade consumers rather than objectively inform them. Journalists, on the other hand, focus on reporting facts, uncovering truth, and providing unbiased narratives.

A story on a local hero: This is classic journalism! Celebrating local heroes—individuals who make a positive impact in their communities—is a hallmark of journalistic storytelling. These stories inspire, uplift, and connect us.

An editorial about an upcoming election: Editorials are opinion pieces written by the publication’s editorial board. They express viewpoints, analyze issues, and advocate for specific stances. While opinionated, they still fall under the umbrella of journalism.

A review of a local restaurant: Restaurant reviews are quintessential examples of journalism. They inform readers about dining experiences, critique food quality, ambiance, and service. Plus, they help us decide where to satisfy our culinary cravings.

In summary, journalism encompasses stories about local heroes, election analyses, and restaurant reviews. However, advertising sections—despite their presence in newspapers or magazines—are not part of the journalistic realm. They’re more like the friendly neighborhood salesperson trying to entice you with the latest deals.
