what was Reaping Day? What event had given rise to this tradition?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

As we know, the annual Hunger Games is probably the biggest "tradition" for the Capitol citizens, and we sense that the mood in the Capitol is festive and holiday-like during the pre- and post-Games celebrations.

Answer 2

Final answer:

Reaping Day is a fictional event from "The Hunger Games" symbolizing the oppressive government's control, while historically, reaping refers to harvesting crops. Traditions like this are often accepted without question, as depicted in literature.

Explanation:

Reaping Day refers to a fictional event in the book "The Hunger Games" where individuals are chosen to participate in a battle to the death as part of a yearly ritual. This tradition arose from a rebellion against the dystopian society's government, known as the Capitol, to serve as a reminder of the consequences of insurrection.

The concept of reaping in historical and agricultural contexts involved harvesting crops at the end of the growing season, as seen in medieval illustrations and the evolution of harvesting technology, such as Cyrus McCormick's mechanical reaper. However, the Reaping Day in The Hunger Games has a more sinister connotation, symbolizing the oppressive control of a government over its people rather than the communal and celebratory nature of historical harvesting.

Festivals like the annual lottery, as described in Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery", also depict a dark tradition with a festive facade, where townspeople gather to participate in a grim ritual without fully understanding its origins or purpose, akin to the unquestioning acceptance of tradition in The Hunger Games by characters like Old Man Warner.

The best way to handle a student who is not on task or on deliberately rude is to

Answer:

Explanation:

Handling student misbehavior involves nonverbal cues, clear instructions, and consistency in behavior expectations, complemented by positive reinforcement, structured routines, and prompt responses to prevent the spread of off-task behavior.

Best Practices to Handle Unfocused or Rude Students

Handling a student who is not on task or is rude requires a strategic approach that maintains a positive classroom environment. Gesturing nonverbally can be effective; a glance, a frown, or proximity can serve as gentle reminders to return to the task at hand. It is also crucial to give clear, uncomplicated instructions to prevent confusion and misbehavior. Using a student's name and maintaining eye contact can prevent feelings of anonymity that often lead to misbehavior. Consistently defining and enforcing expectations for classroom behavior is key. Structurally, implementing a predictable routine and remaining calm in response to misbehavior help foster a stable learning environment.

Further methods include using positive reinforcement, making desirable activities contingent on completing necessary but less appealing ones, and allowing students to serve as role models or peers to influence positive behavior. When correcting behavior, it's important to focus on what students should do instead of what they shouldn't, and to deliver feedback in a way that encourages improvement rather than simply criticizing. Lastly, addressing misbehavior promptly helps prevent the 'ripple effect,' where one student's actions negatively influence others.

Private, respectful conversations about behavior, as well as giving problem students responsibilities, allow for positive reinforcement and help guide students toward better choices. Strategies from Teaching Discipline by Madsen and Madsen recommend shaping desired behaviors gradually through reinforcement and setting the stage for appropriate behavior by asking students to assist with tasks. All these tactics are designed to direct students towards a more positive, engaged, and respectful learning experience.

Which character falsely accuses neighbors of witchcraft so that he can buy their land? options: Thomas Putnam Giles Corey Francis Nurse Judge Hathorne

Answers

Answer:

Thomas Putnam accuses his neighbors of witchcraft so that he can cheaply buy their land.

Explanation:

The Crucible (1953) is Arthur Miller's tragedy play in which many innocent people of Salem are falsely accused of witchcraft, arrested, tried wrongly and nineteen of them are hanged to death.

There are many references throughout the play that Thomas Putnam is a greedy and rich landowner who want to grab other's property/land by hook or by crook. He accuses not only John Proctor of witchcraft but many others of his neighbors as well.

Some references from the playing mentioning this fact are;

Putnam: Why, we are surely gone wild this year. What anarchy is this? That tract is in my bounds, it’s in my bounds, Mr. Proctor.

Proctor: In your bounds! indicating Rebecca: I bought that tract from Goody Nurse’s husband five months ago.

Putnam: He had no right to sell it. It stands clear in my grand-father’s will that all the land between the river and

Proctor: Your grandfather had a habit of willing land that never belonged to him, if I may say it plain.

And

Giles Voice: "Thomas Putnam is reaching out for land!"

Giles:"And there is none but Putnam with the; coin to buy so great a piece. This man is killing his neighbors for their land!"

Final answer:

The character who accuses others of witchcraft to buy land at cheap prices during the Salem witch trials in Arthur Miller's play is Thomas Putnam.

Explanation:

The character who falsely accuses neighbors of witchcraft so that he can buy their land is Thomas Putnam. This accusation occurs within the historical context of the Salem witch trials, a period of mass hysteria in colonial Massachusetts during which individuals were accused of witchcraft, often without substantive evidence. In Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, which dramatizes the events of the witch trials, Thomas Putnam's character is portrayed as someone who takes advantage of the fear and hysteria by accusing others of witchcraft in order to purchase their land at lower prices as they face persecution.

C) When the paste becomes the consistency of pudding, it has been beaten enough.

D) Place a small bit in the oven. If it rises in the form of a hollow ball, it has been beaten enough.

Answers

Answer:

According to the recipe, B) When the color of the paste begins to lighten slightly, it has been beaten enough.

Explanation:

Creaming or Beating is amongst the most essential techniques of blending used in the recipe. The paste's appearance seems to have become lighter when it is thoroughly beaten as the air bubbles have now been added to the paste; When the appearance of the paste becomes lighter, we came to know that that the paste has been beaten enough. Hence, option (A) is correct.

Since the recipe is not mentioned, considering the question asked according to the mixing method, the paste will stick to the wooden spoon even if the paste is not beaten. No one will use an oven to test the beaten consistency of the paste. As we never know why the paste is being used for, we should not consider that it is correct to have the consistency of the pudding.  So, options (A), (C) and (D) are incorrect.

A. Showing the sister and father at the same door shows that Gregor is often late.
B. Showing the sister and father at the same door is harder to illustrate clearly.
C. Showing the sister and father at different doors would require more illustrations and wouldn't add to the story.
D. Showing the sister and father at different doors would require fewer illustrations and wouldn't add to the story.

Answers

Kuper depicts the scene differently mostly because showing the sister and father at different doors would require more illustrations and  wouldn't add to the story.

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

The Metamorphosis is a novel authored by Franz Kafka and later by Peter Kuper. Gregor Samsa is a central character of this novel, where one morning it often happens that Gregor finds himself into a totally transform being and he has turned into a giant insect.

The reason why Kuper depicts the scene differently is because there is not a detailed description about the scene of Gregor’s sister and father. This novel basically is about how human beings when faced with a challenging transformation should adapt to those changes that occurs in their life and surroundings.

The correct answer is B It adds to the uncertainty about what Hana's life will be like in America.

Explanation:

Tears of Autumn is a story written by Yoshiko Uchida, a Japanese writer, and it narrates how a young woman moves from a small town in Japan to a big city in the U.S. and all the changes it means.

Essay on women empowerment

Answers

Answer:

Women empowerment refers to making women powerful to make them capable of deciding for themselves. Women have suffered a lot through the years at the hands of men. In earlier centuries, they were treated as almost non-existent. As if all the rights belonged to men even something as basic as voting. As the times evolved, women realized their power. There on began the revolution for women empowerment.

Essay on Women Empowerment

As women were not allowed to make decisions for them, women empowerment came in like a breath of fresh air. It made them aware of their rights and how they must make their own place in society rather than depending on a man. It recognized the fact that things cannot simply work in someone’s favor because of their gender. However, we still have a long way to go when we talk about the reasons why we need it.

Need for Women Empowerment

Almost every country, no matter how progressive has a history of ill-treating women. In other words, women from all over the world have been rebellious to reach the status they have today. While the western countries are still making progress, third world countries like India still lack behind in Women Empowerment.

In India, women empowerment is needed more than ever. India is amongst the countries which are not safe for women. There are various reasons for this. Firstly, women in India are in danger of honor killings. Their family thinks its right to take their lives if they bring shame to the reputation of their legacy.

Explanation:Moreover, the education and freedom scenario is very regressive here. Women are not allowed to pursue higher education, they are married off early. The men are still dominating women in some regions like it’s the woman’s duty to work for him endlessly. They do not let them go out or have freedom of any kind.

In addition, domestic violence is a major problem in India. The men beat up their wife and abuse them as they think women are their property. More so, because women are afraid to speak up. Similarly, the women who do actually work get paid less than their male counterparts. It is downright unfair and sexist to pay someone less for the same work because of their gender. Thus, we see how women empowerment is the need of the hour. We need to empower these women to speak up for themselves and never be a victim of injustice.

How to Empower Women?

There are various ways in how one can empower women. The individuals and government must both come together to make it happen. Education for girls must be made compulsory so that women can become illiterate to make a life for themselves.

Women must be given equal opportunities in every field, irrespective of gender. Moreover, they must also be given equal pay. We can empower women by abolishing child marriage. Various programs must be held where they can be taught skills to fend for themselves in case they face financial crisis.

Most importantly, the shame of divorce and abuse must be thrown out of the window. Many women stay in abusive relationships because of the fear of society. Parents must teach their daughters it is okay to come home divorced rather than in a coffin.

An adjective phrase is a group of words that describes a noun or a pronoun in a particular sentence. This phrase can be placed both before and after the noun it describes.

Adjective phrases usually contain adjective(s), but there are some exceptions. In some cases, a preposition (as in this case) or an adverb can be used to modify the noun. In this sentence, the adjective phrase ''of the children'' points back to the noun ''voices.'' The modified noun is, therefore, ''voices''.

In many romantic stories, the hero and heroine meet at a dance and fall in love at first sight. What happens to Darcy and Elizabeth at the ball in Meryton?

Answers

Answer: At the Meryton Hall ball, Elizabeth's prejudices against Darcy begin.

Explanation:

While the hero and heroine usually fall in love at first sight, this is not what happens with Elizabeth and Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

At the Meryton ball, Elizabeth overhears the conversation that Darcy has with Bingley. Bingley confesses to Darcy that Jane is 'the most beautiful creature' and suggests that Darcy should dance with Elizabeth. Darcy, however, refuses this suggestion and mentions that there are no women pretty enough for him to dance with at the ball. Elizabeth finds this remark rather insulting and is convinced that Darcy is too proud. Meryton ball represents the beginning of Elizabeth's misjudgment of Darcy.

Which theme is similar in Rich's "From an Atlas of the Difficult World" and Hughes's "Let America Be America Again"?

A) There is hope amid difficulties

B) Individuals create problems for others

C) Dreams raise people out of boredom

D) People Rebel against Inequality

Answers

Answer:

I believe the best answer to be letter A) There is hope amid difficulties.

Explanation:

In Langston Hughes's "Let America Be America Again", the speaker talks of how America was supposed to be a land of freedom and equality, but turned out to be the opposite for many. The speaker himself says more than once that America was never America to him. Still, at the end of the poem, he says America shall be America. The very people who are now oppressed shall claim America and make it what it should have been from the beginning. As we can see, the author has hope.

"I know you are reading this poem listening for something, torn  / between bitterness and hope / turning back once again to the task you cannot refuse." Those are lines from Adrianne Rich's poem "An Atlas of the Difficult Word". The speaker in the poem is well-aware that people are forced to live unfulfilling lives. She is also aware that many of them still have dreams, hopes, loves, thirst for more. No matter how poor, sad, tired, or busy people are, they can still find pleasure in life, even if it is by reading the poem.

Therefore, both poems talk of hope amid difficulties, of keeping on dreaming in spite of what oppression has done to prevent it.

The genre I am taking is science-fiction. The point of view is 1st person human (it is not a fable) and the character type is the protagonist (the good guy).

The story starts now:

Topic: Whoa! I’m a superhero!

Explanation:

It was a day, just like any other day, when it all happened. I woke up and got dressed for school. It was a very normal day, too normal if you think about it. I was bored in class and slept through history. When I got home, I ate lunch and went to the near woods on my bike as usual. After cycling for 10 minutes, I noticed everything was awfully quite. Then when I peered through the distance, I saw that there was a barrier, not there before. When I got there it said restricted area but everything looked quite normal. I decided to check it out. When I climbed over the fence, I pushed away the quite large undergrowth and to my amazement, a meteorite had landed. It was glowing purple, and the nearest tree had turned purple, with lots of thorns. Really long ones. I went close, but my foot slipped, and a thorn got stuck in my hand. Luckily, it hadn’t gone all the way through my finger, only enough to cause quite a lot of bleeding. I took it out very hesitantly. Then, something happened that shocked me so much it was burned in memory. My blood turned purplish- blue, and I felt… CHANGED. Nevertheless, I wrapped my finger tightly into some tissue that was lingering in my pocket. The bleeding stopped, but the tissue melted, yes melted! Okay, just be calm, this is just some freaky imagination, so skedaddle with your eyes closed, I thought. When I saw my finger wound, it was perfectly normal. I just realized something, Whoa! I’m a superhero! Then I thought that I just got taller, wait a minute, I said, I was flying! I rose through the air and just flew over the barrier. Nobody should know this, I thought. Then I went home, had dinner and went to sleep. In my dream, I saw that there was sound coming from the meteorite. I went closer to listen, and the meteorite kept saying six words, over and over again. They were Flight, Telekinesis, Telepathy, Teleportation, Regeneration and the last word, with great emphasis was BEWARE. Then I saw a young boy standing there every time after beware whom I had not seen before.

Next day, I woke up and realized something! Those were the five superpowers granted to me, two of them I had known by now. When I entered the class, the boy in my dream was sitting on the corner seat! Apparently he was a newcomer and when our teacher asked him to introduce himself, he only said this much: My name is Tobias Jefferson and I live in this town. You need to know only this much about me. After that everybody was avoiding him, but he kept staring at me all through the day. Was he a super villain, and did I have to stop him? Probably. Then at Lunch, Somebody dropped some note and the following words were on it:

If you want to live happily, don’t even think of challenging me. I know who you are, and so do you know who I am. Avoid me, and it will do you good.

-- T.J.

DESTROY THIS IMMEDIATELY!

Then I remembered that I have superpowers, why should I be afraid of him? I also remembered, that I had the power of telepathy. Then I tried to read the mind of my nemesis. The only thing I could read were: Super speed, Super strength, Fire control, hypnosis, invisibility and one terrifying thing, I WARNED YOU! Right after that came an earth shattering punch on my face, and I got really hurt, but I regenerated to the normal me. Everyone stared at this, but nobody moved. Then I said “take this fight outside so that nobody gets hurt.” He said: “alright then” and then slammed another punch to my face that I flied through, breaking the wall and landed in the ground. I was furious just then, I used my telekinesis to hold him in place, lift him up, and slam him head-first into the ground. Then I took a big chunk of the broken wall and aimed at him, but he dodged with super speed and landed a punch in my gut. He then controlled fire from the school kitchen and aimed it at my face. I regenerated and when I turned to see him, he was nowhere. Just then, he appeared in front of me and looked straight into my eyes. I started feeling sleepy but I snapped out of it and flew high above and landed a punch of my own. That felt good. Soon I saw that he turned out to be an alien who had come into the meteorite and had plans to rule the world. Then I realized, I just read his mind! Then I saw him saying: “You will regret this boy, I will come back for you” and disappeared into nothingness.

Then, everybody cheered and soon the world knew who I am and that I have superpowers. Life was very different. The teachers didn’t like that everybody was paying attention to me and not studying, but all of my friends liked it, that is, that I was a superhero. I kept saving the world and I was really happy and still am now.

My project connects to the theme friendship because as the main characters Prosper and Bo escaped from their about to be foster parents, they met a gang of young kids who were in the same boat as them. As their friendships grew, they joined the gang, and started to participate in important tasks among them; their friendship became deeper. Later when their parents came and hired a detective to come and find them, the two boys told the detective of their past, and also befriended him and his family, who treated them as though they were their own kids. This relates to my second theme Family. The only reason that the two kids ran away from their foster parents, was because they knew that they would be treated poorly. Although the foster parents hired a detective to come and look for the two kids, it wasn’t out of love. They only wanted to get Bo back because they thought he was “cute” and “adorable”. Compared to the gang of kids and the Detective that befriended the two, they seemed more of family to Bo and Prosper than their foster parents would ever be to them. During the project, I decided to show my themes by first giving in text information to help support my themes, and then give a different variety of pictures to help support the information which explains the theme. This was a good setup do to the fact that Since you first see the theme, you can then read the description from examples in the text to help explain the theme, while having pictures along the way.
