How did new weapons affective fighting in World War I?

Answers

New weapons meant stronger weapons better defense etc

Basically, it meant they upgraded from older equipment

Throughout the first truly global war, we can see from the present the large technological advancement and impact that the war had brought, as well as the effects of each. Each weapon created was to realistically make the war shorter, but sadly, prolonged the war and resulted in high casualty rates. Some of the most influential weapons would be listed below.

Machine guns: While the Machine gun had been around for a long time (Since the Mexican-American War & American Civil War, in which the Maxim machine-gun was used, these weapons was able to evolve for the better (and much more later on in history), making it more lethal, lighter, be able to hold more rounds, faster cooling system and firing rate, and much more other improvements. the machine guns (MG) was used widely on both sides, and were used as defensive weapons, being able to mow down charges by the opposing side through "no-mans land".

Tanks: Tanks were created by the British, and later copied by Germany and the USA. They had their first frightening appearance during the Battle of Somme, which was described as heavy sheet metal that rolled across the fields and deflected rounds. However, the first few prototypes that were created were flimsy, non-practical, and "easily destroyable". By the time the USA joined in 1917, many sides had been extensively using tanks, which led to the US developing their own variant, one that had a turrent, based on a tank known as the "Renault FT". These tanks were produced in massive numbers, and had a great impact on the resource-drained Central Powers.

Gas: Gas such as mustard gas (which are already banned today through the Geneva Convention) was also used extensively throughout the war. They were generally used without warning, and would lead to symptoms such as gagging, watery eyes, burning sensation, and even death, blindness, and others. Usually birds were used on both sides to detect the usage of gas, and soldiers had seconds to put on their gas masks.

Airplanes: Warplanes had a lesser impact on the war, but they still had their debut with glory. Biplanes and triplanes were extensively used by both sides, and could be seen doing reconnaissance, dropping bombs on enemy locations, and even have dogfights.

Submarines: While these also have been around since the Revolutionary War (the "Turtle"), subs were greatly expanded upon, especially by Germany and Austrio-Hungary. They were used extensively in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean to sink battleships, battlecruisers, and especially transport ships that brought vital resources and even troops to the western front.

While there were much more "new" technologies, these were some of the weapons that had the greatest impacts, and also were the ones that (except for gas) greatly expanded on during the latter years.

He Marshall Plan was important because it A) checked Soviet power in Cuba. B) secured allies for the United States. C) was never ratified by the United States Congress. D) helped communist countries rebuild after World War II.

Answers

Correct answer:  B) secured Allies for the United States.

Explanation/context:

The "Marshall Plan" was named after the man who then was US Secretary of State, George C. Marshall.  Officially the plan was called the European Recovery Program.  Marshall announced the plan in 1947, and it went into effect in 1948.  The intent was to provide aid and rebuilding to European economies after the damaging effects of World War II.   Eastern bloc countries, however, rejected the plan, so it ended up as a plan that benefited Western European nations and not Eastern European nations.

In his speech introducing the plan, Secretary Marshall had said:  "Our policy is not directed against any country, but against hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos. Any government that is willing to assist in recovery will find full co-operation on the part of the United States. Its purpose should be the revival of a working economy in the world so as to permit the emergence of political and social conditions in which free institutions can exist."

The view in the communist-controlled Eastern bloc was that the US was trying to use such a policy to spread its influence and threaten their patterns of government under communism.  So the plan ended up building allies for the US in Western Europe, while the Eastern European countries sided with the Soviet Union.

What assumptions have been made about fingerprints? What are the problems with these assumptions?

Answers

Fingerprint matching is determined through unique characteristics. To achieve it must have certain ridges. loops and whorls. The characteristic points are then compared to the prints on the system. When forensics finds that there are enough similar matching points, they state whether they are fingerprints in which they match or not.

It is assumed that prints are one hundred percent positive, that is their use is one hundred percent successful with a zero error.

However, the prints are not considered scientific evidence, but it is still a presumption. There is never a hundred percent matching the prints, but just the similarity within the prints.

Final answer:

Fingerprints are assumed to be unique and unchanging, characteristics that are used in forensic analyses. However, these assumptions can lead to possible errors as fingerprints can be worn or distorted.

Explanation:

Assumptions about fingerprints include their uniqueness and their unchanging nature. Each person has a unique fingerprint pattern formed during fetal development where cells of the stratum basale meet the papillae of the underlying dermal layer; these patterns do not change with age or growth.

This is similar to the concept of DNA fingerprinting, a forensic method used to determine whether two DNA samples are from the same or related individuals. However, these assumptions can be problematic as fingerprints can be worn down or distorted, leading to potential misidentifications in forensic investigations.

In what ways were art and literature key elements in this East Asia cultural complex?
Is it more accurate to think of a common East Asian civilization by the postclassical period or to look at the lapanese, Korean, and Vietnamese societies as separate cases with some interaction with some interactions with China?
Did the spread of Chinese values to other East Asian societies suggest any particular relationship between East Asia and other parts of the world?

Answers

Final answer:

Art and literature were key in disseminating Chinese values across East Asia. A blend of interaction with China and respective native elements formed unique societies in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. The spread of Chinese values illustrates cultural exchange but global influence isn't as pronounced due to East Asia's geographical isolation.

Explanation:

Art and literature were crucial aspects of the East Asian cultural complex, functioning as tools for the dissemination and reinforcement of Chinese values. They depicted the philosophies, morals, and societal constructs of the times, such as Confucian values, influencing societies across East Asia.

As for the concept of common East Asian civilization, it was more of a blend of separate entities like Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese societies marking their distinct elements, yet greatly influenced by interactions with China. This influence can be seen in adoption of writing scripts to Buddhist philosophies, yet maintaining their native folklore and customs.

On the global scale, the spread of Chinese values illustrates a cultural exchange and interaction beyond geographical boundaries, akin to the influence of Greek and Roman culture in the western world. However, East Asia's interaction with other parts of the world, during the postclassical period, wasn't as pronounced due to geographical isolation and self-sustained economies.

What type of people supported the Democratic Republican Party?

Answers

People that believed in both Democratic and republican parties.

They didnt fully believe in either one of them.

-TheOneandOnly003

Final answer:

The Democratic-Republican Party was initially supported majorly by rural sectors, small farmers and artisans. Over the years, it garnered support from the lower socio-economic status individuals, and minority groups, especially in the 1930s due to purposeful outreach. Additionally, the Southern United States, despite its less tolerant racial stance, was largely dominated by Democrats.

Explanation:

The question pertains to the type of people who supported the Democratic Republican Party. The Democratic Republican Party, which later was split into further political factions, gained support from various socio-economic classes over time. Initially, they drew the support predominantly from the rural sectors, small farmers and artisans while their counterparts, the Federalists commanded support from the urban elites and southern planters.

However, there were several realignments in the party's structure and demographic over time. In the 1930s, the Democratic Party formed a coalition among individuals of lower socio-economic status from northern and midwestern cities, signaling a shift in the party's base. They also reached out to minorities and became religiously and ethnically more diverse in comparison to their Republican counterparts.

Further, the southern United States, despite being less tolerant on racial matters, was dominated by Democratic politicians since the Civil War. It's worth noting, though, that this support from lower socioeconomic status individuals and minority groups did not necessarily translate to all parts of the country. In some states, such as the southern US, minority groups like African Americans remained largely disenfranchised despite the Democratic Party's outreach elsewhere.

It spread a powerful message of regeneration and perfection, reaching diverse groups across the country, including women, the rich and poor, as well as the enslaved and free black communities.

The Sputnik satellite was sent into orbit by the USSR on October 4, 1957.  The Soviets announced its mission as a scientific one, to study the solar system.  In the Cold War atmosphere, of course, Americans were wary of what other motives the USSR might have had.  The Soviets launched Sputnik 2 in November, 1957, with a dog on board.

The USA took steps to catch up and surpass the Soviets in the space race. The US scrambled to get its own satellite program operational, launching the first US satellite, Explorer, on January 1, 1958.  The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was founded in July, 1958, to continue the United States' advance in space technology.
