Which situation shows a constant rate of change? A. The number of goals scored in a soccer game compared with the minutes played B. The weight of a kitten compared with its age in months C. The height of a paper airplane over time D. The amount raised by a booster club compared with the number of raffle tickets sold

Answers

Answer 1

The correct answer is D. "The amount raised by a booster club compared with the number of raffle tickets sold". A constant rate of change is accomplished when the change in one situation constantly results in changing another. In the scenario of a booster club constantly selling raffle tickets, the more tickets they sold the more the club raises.

Answer 2

A. The number of goals scored in a soccer game compared with the minutes played

A constant rate of change refers to a consistent and unchanging relationship between two variables over time. In the context of the options provided:

A. The number of goals scored in a soccer game compared with the minutes played represents a situation with a constant rate of change. As the game progresses, the number of goals scored changes proportionally with the passage of time, assuming a steady pace of scoring throughout the match.

This scenario contrasts with the other options where the relationships between the variables are likely to vary over time. In options B and C, the weight of a kitten and the height of a paper airplane are expected to change non-linearly with respect to age or time. Option D involves a financial transaction where the amount raised by a booster club may fluctuate unpredictably depending on various factors, such as ticket sales, donations, and expenses. Therefore, option A best illustrates a situation with a constant rate of change.

Do some brief research on the outcome of the presidential election in 2000. Consider the role of the Supreme Court in that matter of Bush v. Gore and the balance of powers discussed in this section. Do you think that the Supreme Court had the legal right to involve itself in the outcome of the election?

Answers

Answer:

The Bush vs. Gore case was handled by the United States Supreme Court on 11 December 2000 and determined the outcome of the 2000 US presidential election. In three separate trial sessions, the judges decided with a majority of 7 to 2 that the recount of the cards that was taking place in some Florida counties had to be suspended due to a lack of coherent bases. In a further trial session it was established with a 5 to 4 majority that there was not enough time to establish the basis for a new recount that could have met the electoral terms in the State of Florida.

The court's decision stopped the recount of the votes and allowed Florida secretary of state Katherine Harris to validate George W. Bush's electoral victory in that state. The 25 votes of the great electors in Florida gave the Republican candidate the victory in the presidential elections.

The presidential elections took place on November 7, 2000. According to the US electoral system, each state conducts its own consultations for the choice of president and each candidate receives a different number of votes depending on the state in which he wins. Whoever obtains the majority of votes at the federal level is elected president of the United States of America. In 2000 the number of votes needed for the victory was 270.

On November 8, 2000, the electoral division report in Florida stated that Bush had a margin of victory of 1784 votes, equivalent to 0.5% difference. According to the Florida Statute, such a situation required an automatic recount of the votes. This process resulted in a restriction of the margin of victory for Bush and on 10 November, after the recount had ended in all the counties except one, this margin had been thinned until it reached 327 votes.

Florida electoral laws allow a candidate to request a manual recount of votes cast in a county, which Gore did for 4 cases in Florida: Volusia, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, which consented to the procedure. However, according to these laws, all the counties had to declare their results to the Florida secretary of state within seven days of the elections, and many of the counties that carried out the manual recount did not believe they could meet this deadline. On November 14, the day the deadline expired, the Florida court declared that this deadline was mandatory, but that the counties could amend their results at a later date.

The dispute in the Bush vs. case Gore was brought before the court on December 11 by lawyers on both sides: for Bush by attorney Theodore B. Olson, from the District of Columbia and for Gore by David Boies. Given the importance of the case, the Supreme Court expressed its verdict only 16 hours after the hearings and the fate of the case was closely linked to the fate of the "Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board" case.

In my opinion, the Supreme Court should not have intervened in the electoral process. Although it was a complicated situation, which would take time to resolve, another solution could have been found that did not imply an intrusion of the Judicial Power in relation to the Executive Power. In addition, judicial participation in the electoral process constitutes a violation of the constitutional right to vote held by US citizens. Therefore, I think a solution should have been sought to finish the vote count.

The Supreme Court has the legal right to involve itself because of various reasons. The first reason being that the race was close enough, and no matter what, one of them would win. Bush was already 'winning,' and so there was not much point in recounting the votes. The second reason is that a country cannot be without a leader, and if this continued, the US would not have been following its laws regarding the presidency position or would become leaderless. Also, the Supreme Court is there to regulate rules, and at this point, it is just exercising its rights.

The outcome of the Presidential Election of 2000 in the United States was that it went to the supreme court as no one got an absolute majority, and Supreme Court ruled in favor of George Bush on a count of 5-4.

I do not think that the Supreme Court should have intervened in the electoral process. While it was a complicated situation, another solution could have been found that did not imply such an intervention of the Supreme Court's power. Also, the judicial assistance in the electoral process is a violation of the constitutional right to vote of US citizens. This is why I think different solutions should have been explored to solve the complicated issue.

Why did early attempts at sleep teaching fail? how did they improve it in brave new world?

Answers

Sleep teaching failed because they did not consider the strength of a child's mind and they were attempting to show kids sane reality, something that was incomprehensible and overpowering. It was reasoned that you can't take in a science until the point that you comprehend it. When they changed strategies a few years after the fact, moral instruction turned into the favored lesson. This was accepted to be suitable on the grounds that it was not rational idea.

Final answer:

Early sleep teaching attempts failed due to a lack of understanding of sleep stages and how the brain processes information. In 'Brave New World', improvements were made by aligning the teachings with specific sleep stages and repetitive conditioning, which indoctrinated society's principles into the citizens.

Explanation:

Improvements in Sleep Teaching Techniques in 'Brave New World'

In Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World', early attempts at sleep teaching, also known as hypnopaedia, failed because they didn't produce desirable behavioral changes. The concept was initially flawed because it relied on the assumption that simply playing audio lessons to someone who was sleeping would lead to learning. However, this method lacked an understanding of how the brain processes information during different sleep stages.

In 'Brave New World', sleep teaching was improved by refining the conditions under which it was conducted. This involved ensuring that the sleep teaching sessions coincided with specific sleep stages conducive to memory retention. The content of the messages was also simplified and repeated many times to instill the principles of the society into the subconscious of the sleepers. The novel's society ultimately used sleep teaching as a method for indoctrination, enabling them to control and shape the behaviors and beliefs of the citizens from a young age.

Sleep teaching in 'Brave New World' can be seen as a commentary on the conditioning of individuals by societal norms and the potential for manipulation of the subconscious. The novel depicted a futuristic society where this technique was successful due to repeated, consistent messages that aligned with the state's ideologies.

what economic factors and principles contributed to the success of europe's commercial revolution ?

Answers

Answer:

The correct answer to this question: What economic factors and principles contributed to the success of Europe´s commercial revolution, would be: 1. Travelling and discovery of new routes and new continents, 2. Colonialism and 3. Mercantilism.

Explanation:

The reason for these three answers come from learning about that one period in Europe that changed not just the continet´s fate, but that of the entire world; the Commercial Revolution. The Commercial Revolution started in the 16th century, and it opened up with the travels in search of new sea and land routes that would reopen the markets towards the far East, and especially, India. This quest for those routes, led, invariably, towards colonialism, which meant the finding and settling, by European powers, of the newly discovered land, and the management of its resources. This was particularly the case of the discovery and settlement of the Americas, which not only re-opened the commerce possibilities, and brought into Europe large amounts of new resources, but it also forced changes in all matters in life, including the economic and political spheres. Finally, because of the input of so many resources, and the opening of these new trading opportunities, European powers organized themselves into trading companies, and mercantile organizations, that controlled not just the newly colonized lands, but also became power builders in Europe itself, dictating a lot of the new policies and regulations in the old continent.
