why did the UFW stop the boycott in 1975

Answers

Answer 1

The UFW stopped their boycott in 1975 after California passed a law that addressed the union's concerns, specifically by requiring growers to recognize farmworkers' elected representatives, enabling better labor conditions.

The United Farm Workers (UFW) stopped their boycott in 1975 primarily due to legislative success which addressed many of their concerns. The activism led by notable figures such as Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Esther Padilla was instrumental in drawing attention to the plight of migrant farmworkers and pushing for legislative change. In 1975, the passage of California law which required growers to recognize the elected representatives of their workers marked a significant victory for the UFW. This law enabled better labor conditions, including the possibility for higher wages and more benefits, which were some of the primary objectives of the UFW's protests and boycotts.

After doing my morning duties. I take bath in cold water. I put on my clean clothes and go to the temple. It is my mother’s wish that I should begin the day’s work with a prayer to God.

Then I take my breakfast. It consists of a few biscuits and a glass of milk. Then I sit at my books. I read them till 8 a.m. During three hours I practically finish all the reading of my lessons. Then I complete home task of different subjects. I do not believe in eleventh hour preparations. I know that labour will lead to success. At 9 I take my meal. I dress myself. I brush my shoes. At 9.30 I start for my school with my friend, Sohan on cycles.

The school begins at 10 a.m. I am at school ten minute earlier. I do not take much interest in the school work. In every period the teacher seems to be talking to the dullest boys. I often feel that there is no teaching for a brilliant boy. Hence I hate classroom atmosphere still I attend to what each teacher says. I pay full respect to every teacher. Hence I learn different subjects according to the school time table. In the first period I learn English. In the last period I learn History

During recess I go to canteen. I take tea there. After I play for some time with my friends. I also go to library to borrow books. As soon as the recess ends. I go to my class to study for last four periods. Recess makes us fresh for further study.

The school breaks up at 4 p.m. I return home at about 4.30 p.m. having taken the light lunch I take rest for fifteen minutes. At 5 p.m. physical exercise in gymnasium. Here is spend  half an hour. My body beings to perspire. Then I run to the playground to take part in different games. My best interest goes to hockey. It is the game which refreshes my mind and makes me active. Then I get back home and take a cold bath. Now I feel myself light. After having my dinner I take evening walk. Then I site by the side of my mother. She tells me good stories. At about 140 p.m. I go to bed.

One Sunday and other holidays.  I sometimes go to cinema for entertainment. At other times I go to visit my friends. In holidays there is a break in the daily routine. But I never break the golden rule of “ early to bed and early to rise.” Regularity in work has taught me the value of time.

Final answer:

To identify the central idea of a speech, one must look for the thesis statement, which is supported by evidence and structured arguments. Key elements include the use of constitutional references, themes of social and economic change, and the vision for the future communicated through the speech.

Explanation:

The question regards identifying the central idea of a speech. The central idea, often synonymous with a thesis statement, is the primary point the speaker is aiming to communicate to the audience. It is typically a clear and concise statement that sums up the essence of the speech, and guides the structure and arguments within the speech. Key to identifying this are signals like the emphatic conclusion that reiterates the thesis, the foundational evidence provided, and the structure that supports the central idea with reasoning and sometimes a call to action. Furthermore, understanding the importance of political justice, specific constitutional references like the preamble, and themes in social and economic change can lead to a deeper comprehension of the speech's message.

Eloquent statements like those in the preamble of the United States Constitution can offer insights into the principles on which the speech is built. Also, the mention of using wealth to enrich and elevate national life hints at the speaker's vision for the future, which can be an essential part of the central idea. In crafting a speech or analyzing one, it's beneficial to observe how the author or speaker aligns their tone, style, and supporting material to convey and bolster their thesis effectively.

Describe the effects of mtv the vcr and remote control on tv viewing

Answers

Answer:

during the 1950s while tv was being widely adopted by americans

Final answer:

The innovations of MTV, the VCR, and remote control devices have significantly influenced television viewing habits by promoting on-demand consumption, changing advertising strategies, and affecting political communication.

Explanation:Impact of MTV, VCR, and Remote Control on TV Viewing

The introduction of MTV, the Video Cassette Recorder (VCR), and remote control devices significantly transformed television viewing habits. MTV, which started in the 1980s, revolutionized the music industry and television by providing a new platform for music videos, influencing youth culture and fashion. The VCR allowed viewers to record programming and watch at their convenience, effectively altering the traditional TV schedule and giving rise to time-shifting. Remote controls enabled easy channel surfing and contributed to a more passive engagement with television content.

The ability to bypass commercials with the VCR, along with the curated and on-demand nature of content consumption, has had a considerable effect on advertising strategies. Advertisers now had to find novel ways to capture the attention of audiences who could easily skip commercials. These innovations also paved the way for a change in politics, where politicians had to adapt to a media landscape where they no longer had guaranteed viewership for events like the State of the Union address. The decline in viewers for such political events suggests a shift in public engagement with politics.

Television viewing has gone from a collective experience to a more personalized and interactive activity, reflected by the proliferation of cable channels and the subsequent fragmentation of audiences. The evolution of television technology, therefore, not only changed how viewers interacted with their TVs but also had broader implications for cultural and political communication.

Which theme about the pursuit of science would Mary Shelley most likely agree with

Answers

Mary Shelley would likely agree that the pursuit of science can be dangerous when ethical considerations are ignored, as evidenced by the themes in her novel Frankenstein where the relentless pursuit of knowledge leads to tragic consequences.

Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, likely harbored complex views on the pursuit of science, reflecting both the promise of Enlightenment thinking and its potential for hubris and destruction. Shelley's narrative critically assesses the unchecked advancement of scientific exploration as represented by characters such as Victor Frankenstein and Robert Walton. Their individual quests for glory through scientific discovery, without due regard for the moral and ethical implications, lead to tragic outcomes.

Shelley's experience, influenced by her parents' intellectual heritage and her own observations of the Romantic literary circle, undoubtedly shaped her critical perception of the pursuit of science. She likely would agree with the theme that the relentless pursuit of knowledge, untempered by ethical considerations or the responsibilities of creation, can have monstrous consequences. As seen in the narrative, Victor's hubris and abandonment of his Creature—a metaphor for the dangers of scientific ambition divorced from humanity—highlight the destructive potential of such pursuits.

Considering Shelley's background and the themes present in Frankenstein, one can infer that she might caution against scientific endeavors pursued at the cost of human values and compassion. The novel serves as a warning of the perils that may befall society when the pursuit of scientific progress overshadows the need for moral accountability.

It has forever been a debate on whether or not students should continue doing the amount of homework they normally do, or if they should do less. Students worldwide are arguing that they are treated unfairly, that they should have a less amount of homework to do. Students already have to do a ton of schoolwork as it is, so why should they get the same amount of work for homework? According to a study by Stanford University and a story from Healthline and an interview from Pricetonreview, they all state, "students get increased anxiety because they get overwhelmed with the amount of schoolwork, essays and tests throughout the day and they have the same amount as homework" "More and more students are dropping out, skipping class and lowering there scores becuase they feel too overwhelmed with the amount of work they have to do everyday."

On the other hand, teachers think "it is not enough work". Teachers have said endlessly, "The more you know, the better." They believe that students should know as much as they can in order to succeed in life. But even parents argue that they dont get to spend as much time with their child becuase they are at school most of the day, and then they come home to do homework for the rest of the day. Students not only miss out on family time or a social life, but they get irregular sleep schedules and they have harder time focusing in class, becuase they are too tired from staying up all night doing homework.

So teachers say that knowledge is everyhting and that we need to learn as much as we can, but how can students do so if they are too tired to focus on what teachers are teaching? Students come in and sometimes even skip breakfast because they are too tired and even skip lunch and dinner! Students have no time for their family, no time for a social life and no time for themselves. It has even been reported that students become dehydrated and unfit because they willl be working all day, that they forget to drink water or even exercise. So homework is causing so many health problems for these students, and they are getting no time for eanything else in their life, and increase anxiety and even depression because they feel lonely and they dont what to fail, so they keep working. Students even get low self esteem because they dont even get to build one when they are busy 24/7. They dont get to go out and feel confident in themselves, when they are afraid of failing.

In conclusion, students are getting more homework than they should. When this happens, students get irregular sleep schedules, increased anxiety, and no time for themselves and loved ones. This causes health problems and lack of motivation to even have a social life. Students are neglecting to eat, and they are over working themselves by working 24/7.

Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

In the era of technology, social media has become an integral part of our lives, influencing how we connect, share information, and perceive the world. While it offers various benefits, concerns have been raised about its impact on mental health. This essay explores the multifaceted relationship between social media usage and mental well-being.

Although social media facilitates communication and information-sharing, its excessive use has been linked to adverse effects on mental health, including increased stress, anxiety, and depression.

Social media enables people to connect with friends and family, fostering a sense of community and reducing feelings of isolation. Research by Smith et al. (2019) suggests that supportive online communities can have a positive impact on individuals facing mental health challenges.

However, the pervasive nature of social media has its drawbacks. Constant exposure to curated, idealized images may contribute to unrealistic beauty standards and lower self-esteem, leading to increased stress and anxiety (Jones, 2020).

Some argue that social media can enhance mental health by providing platforms for self-expression. While this is true, the negative consequences, such as cyberbullying and social comparison, cannot be ignored. Acknowledging counterclaims strengthens the overall argument.

A study conducted by Johnson et al. (2018) found a significant correlation between excessive social media use and symptoms of depression. Similarly, a survey by the American Psychological Association (2017) highlighted the impact of social media on stress levels among young adults.

In conclusion, while social media has undeniable benefits, its excessive use can have detrimental effects on mental health. Acknowledging both the positive and negative aspects is crucial. To foster a healthier online environment, individuals must be mindful of their social media consumption, and policymakers should consider implementing measures to mitigate the negative impact.

Call to Action:

As we navigate the digital age, it is imperative to promote awareness about responsible social media use. Encouraging open conversations and incorporating digital literacy education in schools can empower individuals to make informed choices, leading to a healthier online community.

Since pie graphs are good to show a percentage visually: the length of each slice, is proportional to the quantity it is representing and they don't show how something changes over the time. In this case, the budget spent on clothes is something (a value) that does not change and can be successfully represented by a pie graph.

An outline ensures that all of your main points are well developed and arranged logically, which makes the writing process smoother and more efficient. For example, in technical writing, an outline can aid in organizing ideas and evidence, creating a clear plan of development. Furthermore, a well-developed outline breaks down the parts of a document hierarchically, allowing for a clearer path from brainstorming to drafting, and reducing the chances of getting stuck during writing.

Why would you generally use the active voice instead of passive voice in your writing?

Answers

i think the active voice is more direct and forceful. The active would seem to point out really the meaning of the text. Also, it would sound like the the writer really wants to impart something to the reader. An active voice adds an impact and be direct. But a passive voice reverses the word in order to make the object and the action come first. Passive sentences usually have more words than active ones, which is one reason the reader has to work harder to get at the meaning. The sentence structure can also seem unwieldy because it's not immediately obvious who is performing the action. This is sometimes done on purpose, perhaps to avoid assigning blame or in cases where it's not clear who did something.

Which scientists notebooks are still too radioactive to handle? PLEASE HELP ASAP!!! CORRECT ANSWER ONLY PLEASE!!!excerpt from One of Oursby Willa Cather1 THE CIRCUS was on Saturday. The next morning Claude was standing at his dresser, shaving. Hisbeard was already strong, a shade darker than his hair and not so red as his skin. His eyebrowsand long lashes were a pale corn-colourmade his blue eyes seem lighter than they were, and,he thought, gave a look of shyness and weakness to the upper part of his face. He was exactlythe sort of looking boy he didnt want to be. He especially hated his head,so big that he hadtrouble in buying his hats, and uncompromisingly square in shape; a perfect block-head. Hisname was another source of humiliation. Claude: it was a chump name, like Elmer and Roy;a hayseed name trying to be fine. In country schools there was always a red-headed, wartyhanded,runny-nosed little boy who was called Claude. His good physique he took for granted;smooth, muscular arms and legs, and strong shoulders, a farmer boy might be supposed to have.Unfortunately he had none of his fathers physical repose, and his strength often asserted itselfinharmoniously. The storms that went on in his mind sometimes made him rise, or sit down, orlift something, more violently than there was any apparent reason for his doing.2 The household slept late on Sunday morning; even Mahailey did not get up until seven. Thegeneral signal for breakfast was the smell of doughnuts frying. This morning Ralph rolled out ofbed at the last minute and callously put on his clean underwear without taking a bath. This costhim not one regret, though he took time to polish his new oxblood shoes tenderly with a pockethandkerchief. He reached the table when all the others were half through breakfast, and madehis peace by genially asking his mother if she didnt want him to drive her to church in the car.3 Id like to go if I can get the work done in time, she said, doubtfully glancing at the clock.4 Cant Mahailey tend to things for you this morning?5 Mrs. Wheeler hesitated. Everything but the separator, she can. But she cant fit all the partstogether. Its a good deal of work, you know.6 Now, Mother, said Ralph good-humouredly, as he emptied the syrup pitcher over his cakes, youre prejudiced. Nobody ever thinks of skimming milk now-a-days. Every up-to-date farmeruses a separator.7 Mrs. Wheelers pale eyes twinkled. Mahailey and I will never be quite up-to-date, Ralph. Wereold-fashioned, and I dont know but youd better let us be. I could see the advantage of aseparator if we milked half-a-dozen cows. Its a very ingenious machine. But its a great dealmore work to scald it and fit it together than it was to take care of the milk in the old way.8 It wont be when you get used to it, Ralph assured her. He was the chief mechanic of theWheeler farm, and when the farm implements and the automobiles did not give him enoughto do, he went to town and bought machines for the house. As soon as Mahailey got used toa washing-machine or a churn, Ralph, to keep up with the bristling march of invention, broughthome a still newer one. The mechanical dish-washer she had never been able to use, and patentflat-irons and oil-stoves drove her wild.9 Claude told his mother to go upstairs and dress; he would scald the separator while Ralph gotthe car ready. He was still working at it when his brother came in from the garage to wash hishands.10 You really oughtnt to load mother up with things like this, Ralph, he exclaimed fretfully. Didyou ever try washing this . . . thing yourself?11 Of course I have. If Mrs. Dawson can manage it, I should think mother could.12 Mrs. Dawson is a younger woman. Anyhow, theres no point in trying to make machinists ofMahailey and mother.13 Ralph lifted his eyebrows to excuse Claudes bluntness. See here, he said persuasively, dontyou go encouraging her into thinking she cant change her ways. Mothers entitled to all thelabour-saving devices we can get her.14 Claude rattled the thirty-odd graduated metal funnels which he was trying to fit together in theirproper sequence. Well, if this is labour-saving15 The younger boy giggled and ran upstairs for his panama hat. He never quarrelled. Mrs. Wheelersometimes said it was wonderful, how much Ralph would take from Claude.16 After Ralph and his mother had gone off in the car, Mr. Wheeler drove to see his Germanneighbour, Gus Yoeder, who had just bought a blooded bull. Dan and Jerry were pitchinghorseshoes down behind the barn. Claude told Mahailey he was going to the cellar to put up theswinging shelf she had been wanting, so that the rats couldnt get at her vegetables.17 Thank you, Mr. Claude. I dont know what does make the rats so bad. The cats catches onemost every day, too.18 I guess they come up from the barn. Ive got a nice wide board down at the garage for yourshelf.
